Power Plant Auxiliary Solution

Overview

WellinTech is a software company dedicated in developing SCADA and industrial database products which include KingView, KingSCADA, KingHistorian and other analysis software based on KingHistorian.  All the products are mainly used in the power plant auxiliary system, such as Chemical Water Treatment System, Coal Handling System, Ash Handling System and SIS system.  WellinTech also provide total solutions for auxiliary systems.

In the past, each auxiliary power plant workshop had a set of independent PLC control system, with its own control room and operator station, which did not communicate with other operator station, so that it became an automation island.  Relative to the host system, the auxiliary system has more production personnel and the efficiency of the labor is low, so after DCS getting mature application, auxiliary system became the focus of the power plant to improve the control level and downsize for efficiency.  How to optimize the control system of auxiliary plant has become necessary for each project.  In the design it can be used fully through full coordination with the same type of PLC IPC, it is easy to use network technology to form a control network for the whole factory (BOP Network).  The diagram of the entire auxiliary workshop network architecture is as follow.


System Structure

The physical topology of the network is redundant Star Ethernet, with 2 master switches as the core, and each networking equipment as a node, through the super-5 twisted pair (STP) and 50/62.5Um multi-mode fiber to form 2 Star Network in exactly the same image.

Summary

After achieving unmanned Auxiliary Workshop, reliability of the network becomes very important, besides hardware redundancy, software can also improve the reliability of the system.  Auxiliary Workshop centralized network monitoring software is designed to follow the principle of "Data Distribution, Risk Dispersion".  The main applications running in BOP control network are HMI and database.

In this solution, application software is configured as distributed system with client/server three-layer architecture: 
On-site PLC Control System is the underlying data source to provide operating data to HMI, OPC server and receiving instructions from HMI, OPC server and Operator Station.
HMI, OPC Server is the middle layer to collect the underlying data, run the server logic of HMI software, and form operational pictures.  HMI server receives instructions from CRT operator station, and sends back to the field control system after internal operations.  At the same time, server will store all of the system operating information into the database on the server to provide querying service for the CRT operator stations.
CRT Operator Station is a client showing the operation screens on the display server and provides HMI and database querying services (i.e., reports).  BOP control system has OPC interface which can enable to send the operating parameters from auxiliary systems to the production monitoring system of the entire plant (SIS).
